Overview of the webinar

Spine surgery coding involves CPT codes from the musculoskeletal and nervous system chapters of CPT. The codes are ala carte, per se, due to the multitude of procedure combinations that can be performed to treat patients with spinal problems in the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine. This session will discuss all of the coding options as well as discuss assistants at surgery and co-surgery, which are common in these time-consuming cases. Also there are circumstances where CPT and Medicare differ on this coding, so it is important to know the differences. We will look at the anatomy of the spine to understand the assignment of codes by levels and interspaces. We will also walk through the different approaches in which these procedures can be performed, and make a difference in code assignment.

Why should you attend?

Spine surgery coding can be confusing if you are not familiar with the anatomy of the spine and the coding conventions of CPT for spine surgery. Many find it difficult to deal with this sub-specialty within the medical offices of orthopedic, neurosurgery, general, and cardio-thoracic. This session will take the step-by-step approach to the coding of these complex surgical case that often involve multiple procedure codes, modifiers, and units of service. If you want to understand how to code these cases, this is the webinar from you.
